Evening primrose oil cold-pressed organic (GLA): rich in the unusual fatty acid omega 7! This oil from Crearome is mainly used as a food supplement instead of various capsules available on the market, but is of course also good to use in skin care products. Dose 1.5-2 ml per day. Evening primrose oil belongs to the downwort plants. It is an annual plant, and originates in North America, where it grows wild. It came to Europe in the 18th century, and now grows wild in Central Europe as well. Evening primrose oil is seen as a fairly common plant in our Swedish gardens – it self-sows very easily and develops beautiful, yellow flowers that only last a day.

The night light flower is most beautiful in the evening, hence its name. Evening primrose is grown commercially in the UK and in some other countries, such as China. China is the largest producer of evening primrose seeds. The seeds develop after flowering. They contain 25% oil, which is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids – especially gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). The oil is produced in several different ways:

1. Cold pressing - is preferred for internal use, but gives color and fragrance to cosmetic products.
2. Cold pressing/deodorization – most often used in natural cosmetic products and for internal use.
3 . CO2 extraction – used as point two.
4. Hot pressing , extraction with solvents and subsequent refining – is the production method that is standard for evening primrose oil. This oil becomes more durable through refining, but then also less active. It is used in cosmetics other than natural cosmetics, and sometimes also in preparations for internal use. Read more about GLA under borage oil, which is quite similar to evening primrose oil, but contains twice as much GLA.

However, almost all tests and reports on GLA are done on evening primrose oil. Don't forget antioxidant... Like borage oil, evening primrose oil is also a sensitive oil. It should always be added with antioxidants and stored in dark bottles in the refrigerator. If you want to use pure evening primrose oil internally, you can of course take pure oil, instead of the capsules available on the market. This is usually much cheaper.
